Does Insight Legal have an API?

Insight Legal software does not publish a public API, so no card or expense platform can sync into it directly. Vergo works with Insight Legal through custom-built CSV exports matched to the import format the system expects — firm card spend is captured, coded to the right matters and nominals in Vergo, and imported as one clean batch.

Does Insight Legal publish a public API?

No. Insight Legal, the UK legal accounts and practice management software (part of Dye & Durham since January 2023), does not publish a public API or developer documentation. Insight Legal has built specific integrations of its own — it connects with Blink for payments, for example — but those are vendor-built links, not an open API that third-party software or a firm's own IT can build against.

What does no API mean for a law firm's expense automation?

It means any card platform claiming to "integrate" with Insight Legal is really producing a file for import. For a law firm the stakes of that file are higher than in most businesses: spend has to land against the right matters and the right nominals, with disbursements distinguished from office expenses, under accounts rules that leave little room for miscoding. A generic card export carries none of that structure, so the gap gets filled by a fee earner's memory and a bookkeeper's spreadsheet.

How does Vergo work with Insight Legal without an API?

Vergo makes the import file the deliverable and builds it properly. Card transactions are captured as they happen; cardholders attach receipts from their phone and tag the spend at the point of purchase — to a matter where it is a disbursement, or to the right nominal where it is office expenditure. Vergo then generates a custom-built CSV export matched to the import format your Insight Legal system expects. Your cashier or bookkeeper loads it as a normal import: one coded batch rather than a month of statement lines to decipher.

Is a file import robust enough for legal accounts?

Yes — arguably more so than an invisible background sync, because your accounts staff review the batch before anything posts. The hard part of card reconciliation in a firm was never the import; it is establishing after the fact which matter a payment belonged to. Vergo captures that answer at the point of spend, when the cardholder still remembers, so the batch arrives clean — with the receipt already attached to each line, which makes any later query from the COFA or an auditor a seconds-long lookup rather than a search.

Will Insight Legal open an API?

There is no public developer documentation today, and we will not claim a sync that does not exist. If that changes under Dye & Durham, only the final import step would change — cards, receipts, and matter coding would carry on in Vergo exactly as before.

Does Insight Legal have a public API?

No. Insight Legal publishes no public API or developer documentation. It has vendor-built integrations of its own, such as its Blink payments link, but there is no open way for third-party software to connect.

How does Vergo connect to Insight Legal?

Vergo provides custom-built CSV exports matched to the import format your Insight Legal system expects. Card spend is coded in Vergo — matters, nominals, disbursement or office expense — and imported into Insight Legal as a standard batch.

Can card spend be tracked against matters?

Yes, in Vergo at the point of purchase: the cardholder tags the transaction to a matter as they spend, so disbursements reach Insight Legal correctly attributed rather than reconstructed at month-end.

Does Insight Legal being owned by Dye & Durham change the API picture?

Not currently. The January 2023 acquisition has not produced public developer documentation for Insight Legal, so file-based import remains the working automation path.
