JMB Construction’s AP team needed to modernize expense and card management without slowing the field. Earlier tools created more work for crews and still left Accounts Payable chasing receipts, re-keying data, and reconciling after the fact. Evaluating solutions highlighted a recurring gap: platforms were either powerful for finance or easy for the field—rarely both.
As the company scaled its projects and card program, the administrative load on AP increased. JMB needed a solution that would reduce manual entry, ensure policy compliance, and meet field users where they work—on the job site and on their phones.
JMB Construction is a Bay Area contractor focused on underground utilities, heavy civil, and public infrastructure. With distributed teams across multiple job sites, the company requires tools that are simple for the field and robust for the back office.
ERP: Foundation. Focus areas: field-friendly processes, faster close, documented spend for job cost and compliance.
During a multi-month evaluation, JMB compared several AP and expense platforms—including HH2 and Vergo. The selection criteria centered on three pillars:
Most options met one or two of these needs. JMB needed all three.
After demos and deep-dive calls with multiple vendors, JMB worked closely with Vergo’s team to map requirements, validate workflows, and align on implementation milestones. Vergo’s Business Development lead, Rich, provided candid guidance on current capabilities and near-term roadmap.
This collaborative evaluation ensured the product fit today’s needs and would continue to evolve with JMB’s AP processes.
Vergo delivered a field-first, finance-approved expense workflow. Cardholders use the mobile app to snap receipts in real time, choose the cost type, and submit—no spreadsheets, no email chains. On the back end, Vergo auto-codes transactions and syncs structured data to Foundation, so AP reviews exceptions instead of re-entering every line item.
Why JMB chose Vergo:
Result: measurable efficiency for AP without adding friction to the field.
Standardized forms and guardrails improve data quality. AP has a complete audit trail—who spent, where, why—with the original receipt image. Policy violations are easier to spot and resolve, and managers gain real-time visibility into job-level spend.
Field employees consistently reported that Vergo is simple to use. That simplicity drives high compliance and accurate submissions, which, in turn, reduces back-and-forth between AP and crews. The platform removes work from AP without adding work to the field—a key success criterion for JMB.
Beyond cards, Vergo provides a single place to manage expense policies, documentation, and approvals—positioning JMB for future scaling.
JMB’s evaluation prioritized adoption, control, and partnership. Vergo met the bar across all three. Today, JMB runs a cleaner, faster expense process that teams actually like using—and they have a product partner that listens and iterates.
“Vergo strikes this balance perfectly and has really been a positive addition not just to our AP dept but our company as a whole.”
